Dye colouring for all unleaded petrol grades no longer required

From 1 August 2021, colouring specifications will no longer be required across all unleaded petrol grades. The exception is low aromatic fuels available in some communities that will continue to be dyed yellow. This is to align Australia with international practices. The transition to all grades being undyed is expected to take up to 12 months to complete. During this time, it is possible dyed and undyed fuels are available.

Fuel quality or performance will not be impacted, the dyes used are for aesthetic purposes only. More information is available from the AIP.
