Using Advanced Search

Our advanced search facility can be found by selecting "Fuel Prices" from the menu at the top of the screen, and clicking on the item labelled "Advanced Search".

The boxes on the left hand side (labelled Product, Brand, Region, Suburb, and Date) allow you to specify what prices you are interested in. The boxes on the right hand side show you what your current search criteria are. To add an item from the left hand side to your criteria, simply highlight it and click 'Add' (alternately you can double-click the item). Your selected item will be moved to the right hand side of the screen, and your search will include that criteria. To remove an item from your search, highlight it from the list on the right hand side and click 'Remove'

There are five criteria you can search on:

• Product - the type of fuel you are interested in. You can search for any combination of ULP (unleaded petrol), PULP (premium unleaded petrol), LRP (lead replacement petrol), Diesel, LPG (Autogas), and 98 RON prices. By default, if you select no products the search results will return ULP prices.
• Brand - this allows you to specify only certain brands of service stations to include in your search results. By default, if you select no brands the search results will return prices for all brands
• Region - selecting a region in your search will do one of two things. If you select a region but no suburb, it will return all prices for that region (for example, all prices south of the river, or all prices in the Goldfields-Esperance region). Otherwise, selecting a region will change the suburb list to only show those locations that are in the selected region. For example, selecting North of River will change the suburb list to only show north of the river locations.
• Suburb - this lets you find prices only for those areas you are interested in - that means you can always find the best price at the most convenient location for you! By default, if you select no suburbs the search results will return prices for all areas.

To make selecting suburbs easier, we've added a box where you can simply type in the suburb name - that means you don't need to scroll all the way down to "Wubin"! Just type in the first few letters of the suburb name, and the box should jump to your selected suburb - then just click 'Add' to include it in your search.

We've also added a new "surrounding suburbs" feature - this lets you include all those suburbs that are adjoining your selected areas. Simply click the "Include Surrounding Suburbs?" checkbox to turn it on.

• Date - interested in only prices for today? Want to see whether you should buy today or tomorrow? Curious about whether your site has gone up or down recently? By specifying the date range you are interested in you can tailor your results to suit you. You have four options:
  • Today - return prices for today
  • Tomorrow - this option (only available after 3PM each afternoon) will show you tomorrow's prices
  • Yesterday - interested in yesterday's prices? Then this is the option for you!
  • Last 7 days - this option will show you the prices over the past week - great for spotting trends!

In the above search, we are searching for ULP and LRP prices for sites, branded either Better Choice, Gull, Kleenheat, Liberty or Peak, located in Bentley, Cannington, Carlisle, or suburbs surrounding those.

Once you have selected all of your search criteria, click on "Search" at the bottom of the screen to view the results of your search.

You will notice that at the top of the page is a reminder of what you searched for; to alter your search, click the 'Refine Search' link.

By default your search results will be sorted by price. To sort by another field, simply click the heading of that column (for example, "Suburb/Town").

An exciting feature of the FuelWatch website is the ability to view a map of the locations of petrol stations across Western Australia. To show where a service station is on a map (and any other nearby sites), simply click on the 'Map' icon next to the price you are interested in. The map will open up in a new window.
